Now is Now

"Caretake this moment. Immerse yourself in its particulars. Respond to this person, this challenge, this deed. Quit the evasions. Stop giving yourself needless trouble. It is time to really live; to fully inhabit the situation you happen to be in now. You are not some disinterested bystander. Exert yourself." - Epictetus

My best friend joined my CrossFit box, CFO and began her one-on-one sessions this week with one of my favorite coaches - Addi.  I've been through a million races training sessions and runs with her, we've run endless races, half mary's and a full in Minnesota.  She's beginning now, realizing that with all that she has to learn and with all the challenges that she'll face, that she's ready with being not ready.  And its not just about CrossFit, its about accepting the responsibility of wanting more in life but with a whole new set of tools she can use and a whole new set of skills she can learn.  It's about becoming better every day.

I love my best friend.  She's been the one who has always been there when I needed a talk, a hug, a glass of wine, or even a hard to hear wake-up call.  I've been trying to talk her into taking the plunge for months.  Like an impatient child, I've pestered her to come to the box, and today, I got to see her in action.  And nerves set aside, stepping into something new, she is rising to the occasion.  She's starting a journey that I've only just really begun, CrossFitting less than a year myself.  But, here she is, embracing her "now" in something that I know sometimes terrifies her, as much as it excites her.  I'm proud.

She is the one who has believed in me, never left my side, and given me advice,  patience, encouragement, and mostly just an abundance of love.  Oodles of it, so much that it's changed me over time, softened my heart, made me more attentive and made me pause, breathe, and relax.  She's the best friend that knows everything and keeps sticking around anyway... you know the type.

I'm excited for her to join the community that I've come to love, I'm excited for them to meet her, for them to see what a special person she is and how much having her in my life has made me better, stronger, and helped remind me of who I am when I forget.  And if you've ever been a part of a tight knit community, you can appreciate the bonds and the depth that it brings along with the membership and there is no one I've wanted to have come join us more than Casey.

And she's just beginning this journey, and its hers, but I'm thankful I get to be there with her and watch her learn new things, meet her goals, find new ones, and realize the strength I've seen in her all along.  And there is no better time than now.  There never has been. Now is now.
